We had a little block party last night. Okay, I have to tell you, our cul-de-sac is a little exclusive.... I think we have 9 houses on the cds so far and the families are pretty tight. So the Halloween plan was for everyone to bring a potluck dish to share and set up all the bowls of candy in front of one house. Trick or treating was scheduled for 6:00 to 8:00 (I don't know if that was state wide, but is was definitely the schedule for Boone County). So of course the parents decided who would go with the kids and the rest of us stayed and passed out candy and played corn holes and drank and talked and roasted marshmallows over the port-a-fire. It was a fun evening that of course lasted way past the trick-or-treating hours.

The only problem was that Alyssa and I had been making plans all month for how we were going to greet the trick or treaters at our house. We'd bought lots of fun things to decorate with including a candy bowl with a scary skeleton hand. Since Alyssa ended up being in Seattle anyway, Mark and I took the bowl and our gargoyle to the pot-luck and set it up on a plastic tub. Let me tell you, that candy bowl was a hit!!

This is the video I took of two of the three year old neighbors and one (I think) five year old taking candy from the bowl. You will notice Michael Phelps seems to think the gargoyle has something to do with the skeleton hand and keeps grabbing the gargoyle to "make it work." The gargoyle in actuality does absolutely nothing but sit there. Halloween is so much fun!!
